Pyrite, or iron pyrite, is an iron sulfide with the chemical formula FeS2. It’s beautiful gold color and luster has earned it the nickname “Fool’s Gold”. Pyrite enjoyed brief popularity in the 16th and 17th centuries as a source of ignition in early fire arms.
Our Pyrite comes from the Huanzala Mine in Peru, which is a lead-zinc mine owned by Mitsui Mining. This mine is famous around the world for excellent pyrite and fluorite specimens.
